About BCC and BCC, Chittagong

INTRODUCTION

Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Government of Bangladesh (GOB). BCC is vested with the responsibility to promote ICT and its uses. It was established as National Computer Committee (NCC) in 1983 and then it went through a series of changes to end up as BCC as follows:

Bangladesh Computer Council came into being vide BCC Act 1990 and started functioning as a statutory corporate body under President’s Secretariat. Then in 1991 Bangladesh Computer Council was placed under the then Ministry of Science and Technology, then Ministry of Science and ICT, then Ministry of ICT. At present the BCC is working under newly formed Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

BCC has undertaken the programme called “Conducting Standard Computer Training Course in Divisional Headquarters” in order to expand the use of computer and information technology outside the capital city Dhaka. In view of the above, computer training centers in six divisional headquarters: Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barisal, Khulna, Sylhet & Faridpur (as Dhaka divisional centre) have been established. The project was started from 1999. The Divisional headquarter of BCC was innaugurated on January 2002 and started training on August 2002. Afterwards it is being implemented under revenue budget on 05 October-2009.

Now BCC is expanding its training facilities through regional offices with other development & consulting activities and introducing more new industry faced training courses for human resource development.


OBJECTIVES OF Divisional Headquarters of BCC

1. To establish an International Standard Training Institute for Human Resources Development in ICT to meet the challenge of 21st Century.
2. To provide direct & indirect support for the government & non-government organizations in the ICT related activities.
3. To monitor the various ICT development program at regional level initiated by the Govt. organizations.
4. To conduct customized training courses for govt. employees.
5. Organize Workshop & seminar to achieve the target of Digital Bangladesh framework.

FACILITIES

a.International Standard Training Labs:
i.There are 3 (Three) well equipped International Standard Training Labs, each labs are equipped with 20 high speed PCs for individual participants, LCD Monitors, Sound system, Multimedia Projector, 100% Networked, Fully air-conditioned, Sufficient light, etc.
ii.One Special LAB for hands on Hardware & Networking Training, equipped with adequate hardware & networking tools.
iii.Cyber Zone: There is a Cyber zone for the trainees of BCC as well as local people.
iv. Pool of Expert Trainers: All the officers are well educated and trained for conducting quality ICT training. In addition to them BCC hires professionals from universities and experts in real field to run the specialized courses.
v.Internet Access: All the computers have broadband Internet access through the High speed ADSL & Wi-MAX network.
vi.Other Facilities:
- Snacks / Refreshment in class break
- Separate prayer space.
- Standby power generator.

A. LONG COURSES:

Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (DICT)
Duration: 6 Months (312 Hours)
Prerequisite: Minimum H.S.C or A Level or equivalent with basic computing knowledge.

Course Outline:
1. Computer Fundamental and Office Applications
- Operating system, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, internet and e-mail, etc.
2. Computer Hardware, Maintenance and Troubleshooting- Basic Organization of Computer, Hardware and Software Installation and troubleshooting, Number System, Logic Gates, Boolean Algebra, etc.
3. Programming in C/C++ - Concepts, Technique, Flowchart, Data Types, Control Structure, Array, Functions, Pointer, File Classes, Object, Encapsulation, Polymorphism, Inheritance etc.
4. Database Management System- DBMS Models, SQL, DB Administration, Backup & Recovery etc.
5. Multimedia and CAD- introduction, AUTO CAD, 2D-3D Design, Rendering, Animation, Image, Audio and Video editing, etc.
6. Web Site Design and Web Application Development- Basics of web technologies; Web development tools; Static and dynamic website design using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySql, AJAX, etc.; Web hosting.
7. Data Communication and Computer Network- Introduction, Data Communication & Signal Processing, OSI Model, IP Addressing, Cabling, LAN, WAN & its applications etc.
8. Project work (in any subject from SN 3, 5, 6, 7)

Exam Method: Students will be evaluate by attendance (10%) + 3 class tests (20%) + 1 midterm (30%) + 1 term final (40%) exams in each subject.
Grading System: Total Course will be evaluated by numeric and letter grading method as follows:

B. SHORT COURSES:

Short courses are designed for the people who need specific skill development. These courses are conducted 3 to 4 days in a week with 3 hours in a day. Some of the courses are available in three sessions, Morning (10:00 - 1:00), Day (02:00 - 05:00) and Evening (05:00 - 08:00).

Introduction to Computer Application Packages and Unicode Bangla (ICAP) (84Hr)
This course is designed for the new comers. Course contents starts from basic computing to a bit advance.
Prerequisite: Minimum HSC/A-Level/Equivalent.
Outline: Computer Basics, Operating Systems (Windows), MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Power Point, Internet & e-mail Unicode Bangla, Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of computer hardware and software.

Introduction to Computer Application Packages & Unicode Bangla under Women in Development (WID) (84Hr)
This course is similar to ICAP except the allowed participants are women only.
Prerequisite: Minimum H.S.C or A-level or equivalent (women only).
Outline: Computer Basics, Operating Systems (Windows), MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Power Point, Internet & e-mail and Unicode Bangla. Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of computer hardware and software.

Computer Hardware Maintenance & Troubleshooting (60Hr)
Prerequisite: Minimum H.S.C or A-level or equivalent.
Outline: Organization of computer system; PC assembly, disassembly and installation; Concept of operating system, device driver and application software; Memory system, disk management, interfaces, peripherals and power system; Virus protection and security issues; Maintenance and troubleshooting; Basic networking, file and print sharing.

Website Design & Web Applications Development (75Hr)
Prerequisite: H.S.C or A Level or Equivalent & experience in the use of computer Application.
Outlines: Overview of World Wide Web and associated technologies; development tools for website design; static and dynamic website design using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySql, AJAX, jQuery

Data Communication & Networking (75Hr)
Prerequisite: H.S.C or A Level or Equivalent &  experience in the use of  computer Application.
Outlines: Introduction, Data Communication & Signal Processing, OSI Model, IP Addressing, Cabling, LAN, WAN & its applications etc.

Graphics Design & Multimedia (Animation, Audio, Video, Photo Editing) (75Hr)
Prerequisite: H.S.C or A Level or Equivalent & experience in the use of computer Application.
Outlines: Introduction, AUTOCAD, 2D-3D Design, redering, Animation, Picture, Sound, Audio, Video Wditing Tools of Multimedia, CAM etc.

Database Application Development using Oracle (150Hr)
Prerequisite: H.S .C or A Level or Equivalent & experience in the use of computer Application.
Outlines: Introduction, DBMS Models, SQL, PL/SQL, DB Administration, Backup & Recovery etc.

ADMISSION RULE:

For DICT:
1. Receive the prescribed application form applicants (download from here or collect from the office).
2. A short exam and/or viva will be conducted.
3. A list of selected candidates will be published on the notice board of BCC Regional office.
4. Candidates will be asked to submit their full admission fees as Demand Draft in favor of “Bangladesh Computer Council” and complete the registration process (Registration form is available in the office).

For other courses:
1. Admission is taken by first come first serve basis.
2. If interested candidates meet the pre-requisite of the intended training courses then (s)he need to pay the admission fees (full amount) as Demand Draft in favor of “Bangladesh Computer Council” and complete the registration process.
Note: The starting date of a training courses is declared after confirming 20 seats in each batch. The course fees are also subjected to change. So, participants are requested to contact before starting the payment procedure.

CUSTOMIZED COURSES / TRAINING ON DEMOND

BCC arranges and conducts special training batches for professionals or group of trainees on demand. In this case a formal application is to be sent to the BCC Head office at Dhaka or to the corresponding Regional Offices.
